Two squeezes means Love you. Three squeezes means Love you too.
A few decades ago, when Krystal was just a little girl, her mum taught her a secret language. Squeezing each other’s hands allowed them to tell each other love you without anyone else hearing it. When nervous, scared or sad, a quiet gesture could make it all better. They’d share this little secret that was just theirs.
The little girl grew up, and at 18, she was out with her girlfriends when a boy caught her eye across the room. Or perhaps she caught his, who knows. This led to that, and not many cocktails later, Krystal and this boy – John, was his name – shared a single drunken kiss in a crowded Melbourne nightclub. As much as I wish I could tell you it was magical and sparks flew, this was real life and not a rom-com. Like most drunken kisses, there was generous room for improvement. Little did they know, as they were wobbling their separate ways at the end of the night, that they’d just met the person they would marry.
It would take them seven years to start dating, and another five to get married, but John and Krystal made it to the finish line. On the morning of their wedding, Krystal was extremely emotional, and could hardly wait to see her man. John has a way of putting her at ease when she gets overwhelmed (which, apparently, happens a bit). The aisle felt like a hundred miles, but when she finally reached him, John took her hand and squeezed it twice. Love you. She squeezed back three times. Love you too. The nerves lifted, and for that moment, it felt like it was just the two of them in their own little world. Nothing could have felt more right than to say their I do’s.
Krystal and John’s wedding… Where do I even begin? What a day it turned into! Krystal and John wanted the day to resemble their personalities and relationship. It was warm, intimate and welcoming, and their reception at Quat Quatta took all the guests to France for an evening. The place feels like an old renaissance house, and Krystal, having a self-proclaimed minor obsession with all things France, could not have made a better choice. And we may have said it before – but fur-babies at the wedding is a big plus in our book. How adorable is Ronaldo, their little ball of fluff?!
