As the doors opened and she saw James waiting for her at the end of the aisle, Rachel couldn’t hold back her tears any longer. Who could have known that the guy she’d turned down dates with consistently for months would ever make her feel this ridiculously happy? And yet now, looking at him from across the barn where they would become husband and wife, nothing could seem more obvious.
Their story starts roughly six years ago. Like many other love stories, it starts at the counter of one of those pubs smelling like a mixture of beer, perfume and French fries. Phone numbers were exchanged, and just like any good gentleman, James didn’t take too long before he messaged Rachel about the potential of a date. Only, she said no. And then she said no again. Six months passed by, she said no a few more times, contact eventually died out, and that could have been it. Luckily, they met by chance at a footie game a while later. Rachel found herself wondering if this stranger from the bar really had been this handsome when they first met. By the end of the game, they were Facebook friends, and just a little more giggly than normal. Finally, James got his date.
When a proposal was in the air, James knew he wanted to make it special. Because she’s special. (In fact, he’s told me that she’s the most naturally beautiful person in the world. That title isn’t too shabby.) So he had her engagement ring picked up in Ireland – where his family is from – and flown all the way across the globe so he could put something truly unique on her finger.
James and Rachel’s day was incredible. Families came together from three continents and four countries, everything ran smoothly, and Rachel probably set a wedding world record when she was ready for the ceremony nearly half an hour early – she was simply that excited to marry the man of her dreams.
